LOCATION:
CUDDERBACKVILLE, NEW YORK
PROGRAM:
1400 SQ. FT. WHOLE-HOUSE RENOVATION
STATUS: UNDER CONSTRUCTION
DESCRIPTION:
The goal of this project is to adapt and modernize a compact 3-bedroom wood-framed home on a large property with beautiful views overlooking the Delaware River Basin. The core of the project is the re-structuralization of the living room, both up and out. By vaulting the ceiling into the attic space and modifying the center bearing-wall, a new circular and more generous flow will exist between the public spaces. Contemporary wood windows are also being added and reconfigured to better frame the views towards the rolling property beyond and create a visual coherency on the exterior.
The detailing of the project is contemporary, but the materiality is warm and inviting. Bleached walnut planks will line the floors. Hand-glazed porcelain tiles will protect the entries. Traditional joinery techniques with be evident in the the millwork throughout the house, adding a layer of depth and detail to the otherwise crisp lines.
